Don’t Call it a Comeback
There’s a line from the movie, The Five Heartbeats that says something like, “You’ll become a better writer when you suffer more.” I never wanted to suffer more to become a better writer…

A Stroke Survivor Story: Part II
Excerpt: By this day, daddy had been in the hospital for a week following the big stroke. He’d turned 73, having to lay flat in the hospital bed. Mom and I were certainly hopeful and prayerful but the truth I kept from people who were checking on him was that I was in despair. It was hard seeing him the way he was, and in a week’s time, he seemed to get worse. I feared the road ahead and what it meant for him and what it meant for my mom.
This Old Man Had a Stroke - a possible series
Excerpt: Finding out that it was Stroke Awareness Month, was just the sign that I needed to start writing again. My daddy has been quite the star of the show in my blog over the years. I hardly know where to start with this story. I want to write about a funny thing that happened but I feel like I need to start from the beginning, share a timeline and the full circle moment-ness of it all.

The Old Man, the Old Mom and the Teen College Visit
Excerpt: I’d already had to look for my dad twice when our tour guide was about to take us to another location. After the second time daddy was MIA, I asked him, “Do I need to hold your hand?” 5 Min Read

Daddy’s Man Cave Puzzle
Excerpt: My daddy retired back in 2013; seemingly without fanfare because I don’t remember any. What I do remember is going home for a visit and taking him a box set of puzzles and him saying, “Thanks?” He low key hurt my feelings because I thought it was a good gift and he wasn’t interested. 4 Min Read

A Lady Named Betty
My daddy has an excellent green thumb. He’s always had plants and anytime I’ve visited he’s asked if I wanted to take one back with me. I always said no because I wasn’t going to take care of them. Since the pandemic made me a plant Mama, when he asked if I wanted him to bring me one when he came to visit I said, “Yes!”
The Darkness is Present
Excerpt: I've watched the news more in the last five days than I have in the last eight months and what sickens me the most is to see how many supporters he still has. People who rant and cheer and don't have a clue that they are part of the problem. It's good vs. evil and there's nothing great about it. Nothing great can come of this and it's downright scary.

Midnight Train to Delaware
Vacations for my family happened in the summer as we traveled by train to see our relatives. Time with family for any other occassion fell under the umbrella of weddings and funerals. When I grew up, I didn't want to see my entire family for just weddings, funerals and one-week summer vacations. When I grew up, I was going to take real vacations to vacation kinds of places and see my family whenever I wanted to.
I'm going in...
